It’s been a little bit since I’ve written, and I feel like I’ve been rather busy, so of course it’s time for an update.
Chapbooks
I’ve done a few batches of chapbooks in preparation for con season. I’m setting up an online shop so I can sell them there, too, but here’s what I’ve got so far:
- “Breathe Stars Into My Lungs” (collection of my published poems from 2019 – 2021).
- Bird pattern
- Dark marble pattern
- “The Arcade” (originally published in Curiouser Magazine in 2021). This chapbook features original illustrations (by me!)
- Stripes pattern
- Watercolor pattern
- “Mother’s Love” (originally published by The Dread Machine in 2020). (I was not a math major, so these first chapbooks are physically larger than the others (oops!), which was not my intent. But, c’est la vie!)
- Undersea critters pattern
- Sea stones pattern
- Seaweed pattern
Publication News
- My mystery story “The Meter’s Jammed, So I Left You Some Quarters” will appear in Sprawl Place on 14 March 2024! (Very excited about this one because I had a lot of fun writing this story, and it’s always a pleasure to work with Scrawl Place!)
- My haiku “[the county came by]” was a finalist in the Maryland Writers Association’s Haiku Challenge, and appeared in the January 2024 issue of Pen In Hand (it’s on p. 60!).
- My translation of Gisela Lupiañez’s story “SEVEN” (a dark retelling of Snow White) will appear in The Dark Dead Things #3! (publication date TBD)
- My translation of Isis Aquino’s story “The Train” will appear in the anthology Extrasensory Overload: An Anthology of Speculative Excess! (publication date TBD)
- 2 more translations have been held! Fingers crossed!!
Upcoming Appearances
Program schedules are still being finalized for these events, and I probably won’t be at them for every single day.
Hopefully I’ll have a few more events to add to the list for the year!
Reading Recommendations
Some books I’ve read recently and enjoyed:
- Embroidered Worlds: Fantastic Fiction from Ukraine and the Diaspora ed. by Valya Dudycz Lupescu, Olha Brylova, and Iryna Pasko (2023)
^ This anthology is a delightful collection of speculative fiction with a definitively Ukrainian flavor. Stories range from humorous to tear-jerking to dread inducing, from fantasy to science fiction to horror, from distant worlds to near-futures in our own. I highly recommend this anthology! - The Golden Mean: In Which the Extraordinary Correspondence of Griffin & Sabine Concludes by Nick Bantock (1993)
^ I stumbled across this book in the “correspondence” section of a used bookstore, and absolutely adore it. It’s told through postcards and letters you actually pull out of envelopes, and apparently it’s one of several books in a series! I love the way the author used epistolary storytelling to create an interactive format with a plot that is both stressful and tugs at your heartstrings. 10/10 recommend, absolutely gonna track down the other books in this series! - Taaqtumi: An Anthology of Arctic Horror Stories (2019)
^ I picked up this anthology after a trip to Canada, where I discovered I know little about Canadian & Inuit speculative fiction and that I have a great appetite to change that dearth of knowledge. I enjoyed the stories in this anthology a lot, though I had to skip over a couple because they were *too* horror for me. (AKA, if you love horror films or fiction, this book is a must-read!)
Chau for now! Thanks for reading!
